Les Houches 2015 PreDoc School : « Exploring new quantum gases. »

The deadline for applications is June 28th.

September 14-25, 2015.
Two week master course on the physics of cold atoms and the recent advances in this field.

The course is targeted at the advanced undergraduate level and emphasizes formal lectures building on textbook knowledge.

ORGANISING COMMITTEE

H. Perrin, J. Walraven, and Ph. Verkerk

SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE

Claude Cohen-Tannoudji, William D. Phillips, Theodor W. Hänsch, Anton Zeilinger

This goal meets the requirements of the Les Houches pre-doctoral school program.
The course is intended for PhD students in their first or second year. Undergraduates at the European Masters level who are planning a PhD study are also invited to apply. Young post-docs entering the field can also apply.

The lectures will be given (in English).

  • Philippe Verkerk (PV : 4 lectures) Light-Matter Interaction / Laser Cooling and Trapping
  • Jook Walraven (JW : 5 lectures) Quantum gases - elastic interactions
  • Dima Petrov (DP : 4 lectures) Degenerate gases
  • Charles S. Adams (CA : 4 lectures) Cold Rydberg atoms
  • Wim Vassen (WV : 3 lectures) Metastable Helium - Metrology
  • Michael Köhl (MK : 3 lectures) Cold Ions
  • Bruno Laburthe-Tolra (BL : 3 lectures) Dipolar gases
  • Leticia Tarruell (LT : 3 lectures) Fermionic gases

The course has been initiated several years ago by the International Cold Atom Network, InterCAN (http://www.intercan.org), which is promoting European collaboration of research and education in the field of dilute atomic and molecular quantum systems.
Now, the « GdR atomes froids » (French CNRS Research Network http://gdr-atomesfroids.cnrs.fr/) is keeping it running.

The application is done on-line and the student(s) will have to up-load a file with his/her curriculum vitae.

To apply, you should prepare your ID picture (in jpeg format) and your Curriculum Vitae (in pdf format). In your CV, please include a paragraph giving the reasons for which you apply.

To be considered, the application form and the curriculum vitae have to be followed by a recommendation e-mail from the Thesis Supervisor. It should be done before June 28th 2015.

The deadline for applications is June 28th.

The selection of the applicants will be done during the first week of July.

The price for board and lodging in Les Houches is very low to facilitate the venue of young students (650 € for students in the first two years of PhD and 880 € for the others).
We have a very few grants to pay the board and lodging (not for travel expenses). Applications arriving after June 28th can be considered, if the number of participants remains reasonable. But no grant can be attributed to those arriving late.
